Fuji’s X-Half Camera has got under my skin
I’ve not had the fever like this in YEARS. Probably not since the original Leica Q or the Ricoh GRIII came out, which is ironic because today is also the day that Ricoh confirmed that there will be a GRIV and that it will come out this year. I’m excited to see what that camera is, but I suspect they’ll stick to what we all want from a GRIV. More of the same small and light package with an excellent 28mm equivalent lens with some slightly more modern conveniences to keep up with the times. Maybe a flash or an OVF, longer battery life, not a significant change to the formula.
The Fujifilm X-Half on the other hand? Well this looks brilliant and fresh. A playful camera that features a lens and sensor combo to be more than just a toy without taking itself too seriously. It could work great with my favourite Polaroid straps too because it’s so light.
I stand before you, a man with a one camera rule that I talk about a lot on a podcast so I’m very unlikely to be placing a pre-order, but my word I would like to. This has the makings of a wonderfully fun photographic companion and paired with an instax mini printer it would be brilliant for family gatherings and journaling. It’s even available in a beautiful charcoal finish! I would shoot with something like this all the time, I adore it. Well done, Fuji.
